Something we learned in History and another class

            This year in history one of the themes that we coved was environment and how it impacts our society, and how people impart the environment.  We also studied similar ideas in science and connected them to chemistry and biology.  Even though there were many similarities in topics, the approaches in the two classes were very different.   In history, we took a broad look at how populations spread across the world, and examined how agriculture and technology affected the natural world.  In some ways, the impact was good, but there were some cons as well.  Because of people, there are now problems of food and water shortages.  Deforestation has also been caused by population spread and adds to the problem of sustainability. 

            In science, we took a even closer look at sustainability and studied the impact of what humans have done to the environment at a cellular and chemical level.  Humans do not realize it, but they even impact the smallest biological creatures on earth-plankton and phytoplankton. This impact causes a ripple effect through the animal kingdom and back up to humans.   Due to pollution by products from humans, food sources and drinking water are becoming scarce. 

            Although the ways the ways we have learned about sustainability were very different, learning about the issue in one class helped us to better understanding in the other.  It was good to hear to different views on getting on similar topics this year.
