South Africa and Heat of the Moment

What does the Heat of the Moment mean and how it relates to history?  I thought to myself when I got this topic, I had no idea were I was going to go with my out line.  If you don't know what the heat of the moment is, its global warming and how its effecting South Africa and what they can do to help the future of generations live in a nice stable environment.   There are tons of reactions from the climate changing in South Africa like barely roots are coming out of the soil in the west coast line of the country in these past few years.   They believe that all the weird reactions are from the climate change and that the plants have to work around it and find a new way of survival.   After around a half a century later the trees are all skeletons.  Their are a ton of droughts acurring because of the lack of the rain fall. 

Students from the Cape Town University says that the weather is strange and is not consistent over time, another student says that she is worried about the rising temperatures and that they are accruing and the sea levels are becoming strange.  Last a psychology student is worried about the change in weather and how its going to effect in the next few years and the affect on her children and everyone else in the community, also she wants to help slow down the climate change in the area that will benefit everyone, like to protect the plants and make a green house. 

 What did you predict of the future in 10 years? 

 I predicted that there was going to be flying cars, a man named Claude Martin said "nobody would have predicted 10 years ago what we see now all over the world...the trend is very, very clear.  Climate change is going to have severe impacts." I find this quote really important because nobody thought of any of this to accrue.  And what is happening to the environment and how we are effecting it.  

Environments are having a struggle to survival because of the small changes in climate change and that is enough to shift everything and the balance of life that people have been doing for the last hundreds of years like farming.  The temperatures are crazy right now and are rising, this summer the temps were around 118 to 125.  South Africa is trying to find a new way of survival and adopt to it and if they don't they will all die.

Machiavelli

One of our homework assessments this week was a reading called The Prince by Machiavelli.  I found that reading really difficult to understand by the vocabulary and the thoughts that were being brought.   In class we talked about this article and it started to make more sense.  One example that Mr Moran gave to us in class was if Mr Moran gives us all A's in his class then we would all love him and his course.   But if he knows your not doing any work he were grade you harder and will not get an A, and we would hate him then.  This made me think, is our society or little Parker community circle on getting A's? You can not tell every one their getting an A, without an warning, with that they are not a truthful person.   Is this fair or not?  If Mr Moran promises something and then doesn't warn us, that's not fair.  But does every one really deserve an A.  All I know that, is that not everyone deserves an A, and I know that I am not one of those people.  He wants us to be scared, so that we do our homework.  In the article we dissucued that Machiavelli says that you have to make people scared of you.  I am scared of some teachers or I don't want my grade to drop so I make sure that I turn in all my homework on time.  Being afraid of some teachers can raise expectations to raise their grade and try harder.  A lot of teachers at Parker say, if you don't do your homework you get a zero.  But teachers don't want their students to hate them.  But out of the Parker community that's how it is at every other school too.  I  think that's fair, you should only be getting credit for what you are doing and the work you put on the table.

Kings

In class, we talked about the reading that we had to read for the class period.  And talk about how a man becomes a king.  When ever I think about a king, and how he was able to get his leadership role, I think he was the first son in the family.  And they become king once their father dies.  But the real question is, were did the father inherited his job?  In class we talked about how to become powerful, the person that steps up to power trades with the people and tell him, he can protect them.  But they need to feed the king.  I think that a king has a everything from the start.  But a king has few people and has to work its way up and an empire.  They just don't have the land from the start either, they have to work their way up to get more land and then they have to protect more people, but if more people then more land.  If more land, then more food, if more food then more money, if more money then it kept going.  The kingdom gets huge.  But they need farmers to work the land, to make sure that the town can grow lots of food.  The king gets lots of money and then the farmers want to work for them more.   This effect reminds me of the Nazi's and how one person in is in the leadership role and then people work so they can eat, and have what ever they like.  If one person wants to be protected then the other one wants to be protected and so on, and then no body wants to be left out and wants to be protected too.  Then you take a step back and realize how big, it grew from such a small start.  And then realizes that he is the richest, most powerful of them all and starts the full leadership of that area.  After he dies, the eldest son will inherit the crown and then become king and then so on.

Han Fei- Tzu and Confucis

For class, we read two readings, and I think that Confucius was a better leader than Han Fei-Tzu because Confucius showed how government should be ran. And that his views on government should be ran with only good intentions.  He also said that majority of the government officials are for their own well being that looking out for the citizens of that area.  And that's why government was created to watch over the people in there best way to protect.

Han Fei-Tzu on the other hand, looks down on the citizens that are beinging governed.   Han Fei-Tzu also does not rely on the citizens for their own good-will.   He also believes that an average of a person isn't smart enough to make huge decisions like what the government does.  So I think that he doesn't have faith in his cit zens that live in his country.  He also put laws down on his country because he didn't want them to have full actions.

These are two totally different ways to run a government they are completely opposites of one and another.  Confucius believed that the government should be ran with good intentions for a good place for all the citizens and Han Fei-Tzu believed that the government should decide what actions they were going to do.  And what kinds of law should be put in place to be in their government.  Is one of these methods more efficient than the other?  They are both to totally different systems but they both seem successful and thrive. Example: In America we have laws that we have to do, but it is for are own good.  I think that in order to run a good government their has to be a balance.  If there isn't a balance, one side may tip over board.  In governments ran now the good balanced ones are still running strong, but like in Egypt the government is falling into deep water.

Pericles' Funeral Speech

For class we have to read Pericles' funeral speech.  Pericles was talking to the people of Athens after the Pelopenssian war.  It was to honor all the soldiers that fought in the war and costed them their lives against the strong city Sparta that was known for their military. Their were family's and other people there and he wanted every one to be connected in the speech he was giving. He didn't want to make them sound so good or not good enough for the families.  So in his speech he tyred to touch a very soft point for every body. He was saying that the soldiers died for the greatest reason to proctect Athens.

 Was Pericles a good leader, effective, or both, of none?  What Pericles did really well in his speech  was that we was addressing really good main points to the cit zens of Athens.  Sparta is known for their military but Pericles did a good job and was saying that he believed that Athens had the power and military to beat Sparta.  Pericles is kind of trying to recourte more soldiers to fight for Athens.  Knowing that they will probably die but saying that the families would be proud that their kid fought in the war.

I think that Pericles was a effective leader over all, he was to persuade people to people apart of the army.  In the speech he was extending the point of all the good things but he was not talking about the negatives.  I think that the speech had a lot of depth to it and it was difficult to under stand.  So how could little kids that were citizens understand this?  He was only really talking to one audience.

Enviornment Unit

When I heard that we were doing the envorinment unit, I was like how is that relable to history.  When I think about the environment, I think of global warning, but not all the historical natural disasters.  When we started looking at Katrina and what the disaster did to the enviorment and how it affect the peoples lives there.  Katrina happened when I was in 2nd grade, so I didn't really know that many things about it.  I found it interesting that with out the technology there would have been no city their.  It really tells the world that this time is based around the high tech. technology.   I also found that the when we looked at WWII and were they lived.  How gross, and that people died there, eat there, slept there, and rats.  Which caused people to get trench foot and their was also mustered gas.  In class we also looked at the plague, and I found so interesting when in history class, and how it spread so quickly.  I also really enjoyed doing the epochs as an over view of history and then looking at one huge thing in more detail.

We also looked at the Haitians earthquake.  I really enjoyed writing the paper, and that I could really understand what I was writing about.  This class so far has been great for me, I really like that we learned how to write a proper essay.   I had never really knew how to.  I am looking forward to the next unit.

End of the Stasi Movie

The Stasi officer in beinging of the movie, I wasn't a big fan of him.  But after stalking and listening to private conversations, he grow so close to the couple that he had moved a special type writer so that he would have not gone to jail.  Dreyman was writing a play about the Eastern part of Berlin and was going to right a play for the Western part of Berlin.  That wouldn't be accessible in the Communist part of Berlin, they would have been put in jail.  Dreyman, had to hide his type writter in a safe place, because the government had way to much power they would just walk in and take it.  Dreyman put it under the floor boards, his girlfriend Christina told the officers that the type writer because she didn't want to loose her job.   The officers went to Dreymans house and look for the type writer but they could not find it.  At her second irrigation, she told them, but she knew that if she told them she could handle living.  I could tell that Weisler didn't want Dreyman to go to jail so he moved the type writer.
The crew of officers came back to Dreymans house and they lifted the floorboard, Christina ran out and got hit by a car and died.  When Christina died, I thought about her red blood and the red type writer ink.  Was the ink in the movie chosen the same color as blood.  Because Christina thought that she ruined Dreymans life cause of  the officers finding the type writer and that change Dreymans life?  So in order to save his career she needed to die.  Maybe in a poetryic way, that the red ink was meant that she saved his career and the red ink he used was to remember her.  Like in Shcilders List the colors and strong ideas carried through the whole movie.  I thought of the red blood and the red ink, because red ink is such a strange color.  Also that brightest color in the movie was red ink for the forbidden type writer.  The books about Dreyman that he was able to read his books from the government and he wanted to know who HWH 7.

I also found that at the end of the movie that Weisler the man for stalked the couple lost his job and when the walls fell he became a mail men. Dreyman saw Weisler on the street who thought was a bad man, Dreyman ended up decatied the book to Weisler.  Which I thought was really sweet that Weisler moved the type writer so he could still live his dream.

Goverment watching

In class we are watching a movie about Berlin and the part that became Communist. It was about a Stasi officer, which is a sercet police that watchs people in the eastern Gernmany a little after WWII ended.  The Stasi in the movie was watching a couple, the male was a play writer.  I found it interseting that one person would want to spend their life like that.  Not having a good social life and having to do such a crool thing like that.  I think that after the Holocaust the government in Gernmany should have learned their lesson.   I dont under stand the politics well, but I think after everything at the time, they should not have Stasi.

 I am lucky that I have never experienced this, or lived in a country with these rules.   I think its weird that a person was spying on me and my family.  The things that go on in a families home is private which is why we have a door, 4 sides of walls and a roof.  It is no one else's business to what is happening in that home.  I believe that Communist countries that spy on their citizens is disturbing, like watching them, going through that person home and listening to the conversations.  There is a reason why a home is private, some of the stuff that is say in a home is meant to be there and not have people knowing what it was about.  It would be different if they were on the street and they were speaking loudly but its still weird.  I am so glad that I live in  county that I don't have to worry about it.  The government was intersected in that couple because the girl was an actress and the boy was a play writer.  The play writters had to be watched because they didnt want some thing like didnt like about their country.  They werent aloud to say what ever they wanted to say.  The government put up like microphones and speakers to hear there conversations that were meant to be private.

The boss that is stalking the government gets so attacked to the couples life that he doesn't want to turn them in.  He was letting them fly, he didn't turn them in.  I can tell in this movie right now that the time of this and the place it took that the people were really wanted to re bell and didn't like it.  I don't know what it feels like to not live in a free country, but it looks horrible.  The boss doesn't really have a life outside of this job, he isn't social.

WWI

In class today, we talked at WWI, and the areas that the soldiers lived in.  The area climate, that it rained so much that, since it is in the ground it becomes a mud pool.  Filled with bloody bodies, rats, poop, pee, and other nasty things just piled into a long tube ditch under ground.  I would never want to be in this situation, lets also add in that they sleep, ate, and lived in there for 24 hours every single day minus a few holidays.  The soldiers had to adopt to their new home, a live a dangerous life.  It was not like they were moving to a new home, they had to go from a roof to a filthy, disgusting, and unpleasant sight.  Watching people die, I would never want to know what a died body smells like, but when I watched a movie last year for the holocaust they had their clothes over their mouth and noise.

Also that they don't have the things in life, like a garbage man.  A garbage man, just doesn't come to the war sight to pick up the weekly garbage.  Second, they didn't get any news papers to see what is going on, of the out side war zone.  And third they knew their live was a risk.

And that they weren't really fighting for land, one side only lost around a few yards during so many years, while so many soldiers died.  It really wasn't about the land, I think they were just mad at each other.  The deasises and sickness that the soldiers got because of their boots, became old.  They didn't have the choice of what shoes they wanted, they probably only had one pair.  As "their"ditch became grosser, and the boots were being soaked up from the nasty water waste.  Soldiers got a disease that starts on their feet but ran up their body to a organ to the heart and died. If they were not treated well.  And now knowing that it eats your organs and die.  I feel like that would be the worse way to die in war.  In life the enviornment isn't always to our greatest.

Vulnerability

To what extent are we still vulnerable to our environment? In what ways are we protected from it?


If there was a heat wave a hundred years ago, many people would have suffered and died. Today, there does not seem to be such a reason for so many people to experience heath problems and death due to the environmental factors. Nearly every city building has air conditioning and heat, and there are warming and cooling centers in poor areas, or areas that have a lot of elderly people. Unfortunately, people still continue to suffer from extremes in the environment. If technology is so modern, then why do people still have side effects or die from heat or cold?
One reason for this may be that the city was not prepared for crisis like that, and they did not have enough safeguards to respond in time to his emergency. Also, citizens did not seem to be looking out for one another. Younger people should check in on elderly neighbors and family members to make sure that they are safe and comfortable. Finally, people were playing in fire hydrants and turning on city water, instead of saving it for true emergencies. The selfishness of some people most likely led to the sickness and death of others. I believe just like the mayor said was that people die every day, maybe the heat wave added a little bit. Poeple get sick, they faint. Trust me, I have done that so many times that I know what it feels like to be dizzy and not knowing where you are when you walk up. I have expenised this a lot more than other people at Parker, most people go to camps that dont live simipily, most people at Parker have never been in a situation were its 104 with no air conditioning.
I know what it feels like to be really hot when a heat wave has gone through Maine. At Camp Fernwood, there is no electricity or air condition or anything like that. So when its hot, the campers just have little fans. While my friends are at home and they have a heat wave but going on there computers or Tv and inside a air condition house. I have expenised this a lot more than other people at Parker, most people go to camps that dont live simipily, most people at Parker have never been in a situation were its 104 with no air conditioning.  
One way that humans are really vulnerable to their enviorment is that humans depend on the enviornment that it provides us with the essential needs to survive in life.   Humans are rewally fragile because they are so vulnerable to the enviorment that they live in.  

Black Death

Why was the infection, able to spread that quickly?

When I think about the Black Death, I think about Swine Flu.  Because that's all I have experienced with a sickness that is air born other than colds.  In class when it started with one person and then spread it to two people and then a dimio effect after that.  Every one in the class was hit other than the people that ended up with a better system.  But with the difference of a plague now and back then was that we have more knowledge of medicine.  Also we have better hygiene now.  If something like Swine Flu wasn't able to be cured a lot of the population would have died.  Also that people now have better hygiene so they were stronger and it didn't wipe out as many people.  They was also a medicine to prevent it for people to get sick, if there was the knowledge of having medicine, the population of the world would really affect today.

How people reacted to the Black Death:

The Black Death was a huge outbreak, that took place around Europe in the mid 13th century.  The plagues symptoms were like little black lumps on the body.   Historians said that it spread because of rats, maybe a sneeze that would be air born that would be with a terrifying quick speed, and spread from open sores that were in contact of people.   In class we discussed the fear of the disease and why so many people moved and left there city.  Because they didn't know they had the disease when they fleeted their town they would get side affects and give them to other towns when they moved.

There was no medical knowledge in Europe to cope with the plague.  No one could help with the towns that had been hit by the plague because they would get it too.  The no knowledge for medicine wouldn't help any of the towns that was strucked with the bubonic plague.  The Black Death had a huge impact on society sense it wiped out 2/3 of the population of Europe.


Why did the bubonic plague spread so quickly?

In the mid 13 century people lived in towns that were really close together but they had no idea of what a contagious disease is.  And that they didn't know where to put the bodies after they died, and they put hem in the street not knowing that they would have been still contagious.

Taking A Chance

During class, we were discussing about taking a chance when going from Spain, Italy or other counties to America.  The people that did that was taking a chance, so they would get alot of money.  You, have to be a cerrent type of person to risk your life.  I know that I hate oceans, I would never do something like it.  But back then, they didnt have the knowledge to know how far they were going and how long it was going to take.  They could run into pirates, sink (which is my worst nightmare), or strong winds and they have to go back.

Why could anybody take a chance to die?

They were in boats that aren't the same as today.  Made of wood and wouldnt the wind like snap the boat in half.  I would rather be poor than take a chance to make money.  I like to explore a new country, but I hate flying over bodies of water, with the techonlogy today it is really safe.  But I would never ever sail across the huge ocean, not knowing what is in front of you and the chanalges that are ahead.  There are sharks, hurricanes, winds and other things that could affect the boat and how it would change the sailing.  In a blink of an eye, your boat could be around little currents and others could be with huge winds.  If I wanted to said across the ocean, how would I know where I was going?  If I was trying to end up in France, I would maybe end up in Morocco.  I am not really a person that is taking a chance, I like to know that I will live a long life.  Kind of like the world ending, those takes scare me.  I would never want to be in that postion.

Given that Chistopher Columbus ended up in a island. Was luck, even though he didnt get were he was going to India but ended up running into American.  The game we played in class, it is so hard to get across the sea, the three groups, no group was able to get across.  Which tells you, its just luck.  There is no way or knowing if they were going to make it.  Like playing black jack, you put in 3 chips but only getting 1 back.  Its luck.  You will never know.  There was no way of knowing.

Push and Pull

When people move out of their society it is either from a push or pull effect.  The push effect is when conditions can be very bad and push people at of their homes.  Pull factor is when they get pulled to a different society.  They want to do it, its not forced like the push factor.  Like walking against the wind it's difficult situation, its hard just like the push factor its a difficult place to be.  But if you are walking and the wind is pushing your back, it is easier so its like the pull factor, its better than the push.

When people are pushed out of there home town is when they have to move away.  Maybe from a natural disaster.  Most people without a live or death move don't just move because they want to, if its a push.  Its like a revolving door.  One way out the other way in, and that is revolving doors in circles and at the exit you should exit for safety.   A lot of the people that are in a push for an exit can be benfitful or be bad.  Its a two way street, if the environment acts upon a one way street, you have to make the best of it and be positive.

The pull factor is when humans want to leave their home town to go to maybe a better advance society.  For better jobs, personal, environment is better.  They want to be pulled into that society to fill a better life, than where they are living now.  If you live in a poor country and want to move, to a better country like United States of America, maybe for a better life for their family and maybe the economy is better.  But the problem is that in the pull factor sometimes they don't make enough money to move.  Maybe the currency is down and you think you get 100 dollars but really only getting 50 dollars because that's what the worth is at the time.  Its difficult for both the push and pull situation.

For the economic factor, people are leaving home to find better jobs, they pull people in.  Like a store window, pulling people into the nice things.  Employment opportunities that are developed for a lot of jobs it pulls people in so that they can support their family.  But that there was an increasing job rate, causing people to loose their jobs are pushing people to move.  

Also personal factor for better schools, may be in other countries with more opportunities.  I think that's the major pull factor of personal.  Or to pull families closer to where their relatives may live.  I believe that there is a push and pull situation for everything way people move, there is a down side and an up side.

For Environment, natural disasters are the main causes that people live to be pushed.  They have to leave because it is unsafe and due to damage of there town also lack of food and water.  But with natural disasters there is also a pull factor because of shelters that may have all the things on the bottom of the hierarchy of needs pyramid.

 

How it Changed Humans Interacting WIth Each Other

How did the exploration of the Americas change the world?

The exploration to America really changed the world because it changed how humans interacted to the environment.  Here are a few thing thats changed the world because of the expoloration of America landscape of the world that humans knew about.  Second, it changed the population, plant, and animal life. They didnt really know the structure of the earth before Christor Columbus found America, but the truth is that there were already humans there.  He just showed the world that there was another huge island type thing.  There was no knowledge of what they knew what the world looked like, they thought that it was flat but it was really a circle.  The founding of America was really just a beinging of knowing the globe and  where they really live.  They expanded the knowledge of America and Europe and the rest of the world and because of all there journies from both sides of the huge ocean, everyone become more aware of other cultures.

It changed how the map looked.  New land was discovered and the Europians mapped the new world and what they discovered.  With all the good things that changed the world there was also some bad confliets too, like diseases because people from Europe werent amounded for it.  Or the Americans weren't amounded for the diseases by the Europians.

The techonology changed the world.  What if the Europians never exploration the Americans, would the world be the same?  Were the Europians bringing a advanced culture to the places that they explored?  The Europians were able to discover the power of humans and how they could control the world around them.  The techonloogy developments in that time period made it possible to explore the new world.  It changed the economic, social impact, politiccal, and religious.  It really effected how the humans interacted with each other societies, because they probalby wanted the new peice of land, with goodies and teasures to find.

Why do people move?

Why do people move?

Some people move because they can, and some people move because they have to for reasons related to survival.  Many Americans dream of retiring to warmer or cooler places, depending on where they have lived their whole lives.  They work hard and save money so that one day they can retire to a climate of their choosing.  Or, people move to live closer to their families.  Unfortunately, in the current American economy, it is becoming more difficult for people to retire because they have lost so much of their savings and can no longer retire where and when they want.  Moving becomes less of a choice and starts to become something people have to do in order to survive.

Survival seems to be a significant reason that people move.  One way to look at survival is households moving to provide a better life for their families.  This might mean moving where better jobs are, or if there is a job offering in a place that is unfamiliar but may be better.  This would allow people to provide basic needs to their families like food, shelter, and clothing.  There are other cases of moving for survival that are even more life saving than switching jobs.  For instance, in cases of natural distasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, etc., people may have to move because they are not safe or do not have access to food or clean water, in addition safe housing.  Or if humans, use all the amount of resources and there is nothing left.  They have to more on to the next place.  What would happen, if that was the case for all parts of the world?  What would there be left, how would people coap with it?  If that would ever happen that would be in many years to come.  Just like there was societies back then, were they used all there natural surrounding like trees, and animals.  If humans use the earth and did not chew it up, and use everything, there would be better societies and a better envioroment.

Many people move from poor countries to countries that have more opportunities.  Some people immigrate to the United States to pursue the American Dream.  They have the impression that by coming to this country, they can make a lot of money and live out their dreams that they may not be able to pursue in their own countries.  However, many times, immigrants move here and find they cannot get jobs and they are just as poor and undereducated as they were in their own countries.  On top of this many of them cannot have the opportunities to get good jobs because they don't speak the language.

Hierarchy of needs

In the hierarchy of needs, society's have to start on the bottom and work them self's up.  Not every society gets to the top of the needs pyramid.  Not even in present time, society's are at the top.  In the world, there has to be society's on the top and the bottom of the pyramid, because life is not fair.  Even how said it is, its the truth, it was always like that in the world.  Hopefully in the future less society's will be on the bottom and have to have a difficult time working up to the top.

At the bottom there is physiological needs, which is air, water, food, and sleep.  Which is just not effect, when people now think about it.  Most people could not live with only those needs.  Wouldn't life be boring, if nothing interesting, nothing to look forward?

The next step forward is safty needs, which is so imortant to have in life. In the safety needs are living in a safe area.   Without those needs it would be hard to live your life with no safty.   The world is not a safe place, someone can go anywhere and not be safe.  

In the middle of the pyrmaid there is social needs,  which is friendship, love, and belonging in a group.  In life everybody should have love.  Also it's nice to have friendships because its good to have fun in life.

The second to the top is esteem needs, which is like attention, social status, accomplishment, and self-respect.  Its almost 2012 and every body should have esteem needs.  Its for people to have a feeling of belonging somewhere and being happy.

At the top of the prymaid is truth, justice, wisdom, and meaning.  The top of the prymaid is for people to reach the fullest potential of a persons life.  In life there is always opportunities to continue and grow, and have to a goal to reach the best person you can be.

Growth and Deline

How come in many societies, they rise to huge power and then deline?
 
I feel like looking back in history at the Maya and the Romans and how their empire fell, from such huge power.  They both had such a succussful adanvance society.  Time is everything, I feel like every society will fall, its just in the catorgie of time.  And when it is going to fall.  Like the societys now will come to an end.  At the best will also be the worst.  From a graph form, a downword slope from the peat of the societys.  Like in life, or everyday there is a peat or a pit of everybodies day.    From such a powerful society like the Romans and the Maya, the societies now, will fall too.  Its not like history repeats itself, it slitly changes itself.  The downfall of scoiety like cultrual, economic, and also social.  I wonder when society will fall now, and people look at the societys now that fall.

Also like Malaria, we had something like it too, but it was called Swine Fly or H1N1.  The time that present time is now, people dont get as sick.  They can save people with shoots and other mechiaine.  If that was back then it was so many people would have died because it is an airborn.  Or if there wasnt good medichane a lot more poputaion would have been wiped out.  People now are so lucky that they live in this time.  If linguists look at medichans now present time, and say that it is weird and stupid.  Just like when kids study the medichances back when they used leafs and stuff.

With good empires and societys there is always a downcline of a slope.  And something good at the peat, will always go down, in the matter of time.  Times is really everything.  People dont appeicate is as much, then they should.

The spread of language and modern culture

The only way linguists could learn about past cultures in Africa was to study their language and make guesses about their life styles based on vocabulary.   For instance, they could learn about the types of food they ate, religion, and government by examining how many words there were for specific items or ideas.  Based on that, what will future linguists say about present American culture if they study words that have spread across the Internet and into the mainstream?

Based on the things that have happened in this decade like tweeting, facebook, friending on facebook,  tumblr, iphones, ipods, ipads and etc.  These are somethings, in present time that are huge things that people do everyday.   A few years ago no one knew what these things were and what they were going to do.  But in 500 years later the linguists will be able to look at this decade and with no idea what looking at.  Like when linguists now look at things years ago, they look at the vocabulary, now with the Internet its always there, and always will be. Once you put something on the Internet there is no going back, its there forever.  But centuries ago, didn't have things that perserve, they would put then in clay pots and other things that would save there society.  Its alot harder to understand the society's back then.  But when linguists look to our prestent time all they have to do is look on the Internet.   It's so much more access able than it was many years ago.

Dictionary.com, its on the Internet forever, anybody hundreds of years later will be able to look at what was able to access during present time.  And have a lot more thoughts of what our society was like, they wouldn't need to make a hypotenuse.  There are many other sites that kept all of the things that people right like tweeting and facebook are the to major ones.

With the easy access to what ever you want on the Internet, it would be much easier to understand what happened in our society present time right now.  With just a click of a few buttons you get thousands of results, when linguists now are looking there wasn't  a Internet, so we don't really know what the society was like.  It wouldn't take to long to look for, like when linguists had to look for things in the old days.  Also it is a lot easier to kept and preserve all of the data during present time.  Thought they had to write them on pots to save their society, some of those society's were probably lost.   But now its a  ton easier to hold on to what happened during societies now.

Knowledge

Knowledge by humans:

Knowledge is special because it attributes human life from all of the other life that is on the planet and have a unique character.  Knowledge is for one person to know oneself and to community to other people.  Knowledge is important to humans because in the old days they had to think how they were going to live and where they would live on earth.  They had to chose a good place on the earth by their knowledge and what they thought of the environment.  In civilizations there comes big problems that have get through it and they have to overcome obstacles and understand what problems happened in the environment like earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes and ect.  The knowledge a civilization is so important, it separates one group from the other.  Also what is functional and not functional in life that the humans want or what is needed for were they are living.

   Humans don't think the same as they thought back in the day.  We worry alot of natural disasters and attacks than thinking of where a community want to live.  Yet humans do not need to have another layer of hair to overcome obstacles and survive stuff. If the humans were able to do it back in the day with not knowing what is coming but we have all this technically and know what is coming, humans don't need to worry any more than the people thousands of years ago.  But it is difficult to understand how to be them and in a community that worries it difficult not to worry too.  Like if 2012 will be the death of the plant, humans have made meths with the technology and but then if we didn't know when the world was going to end, they would have no worry.  To avoid what came before when there wasn't technology and other stuff that humans are ex custom too.

The knowledge humans have now is from the people before present time had to overcome and have already had problems.  Humans now ere able to build off the ideas and knowledge of what people and faced with before.  And came with a better knowledge of what it was with problems years ago.  It took 5,000 years to master technology to have a computer and cell phones.  Some body did all the hard work for what humans in America live in.  Its all artificial, all the lights, the heated rooms everything that is in our house.  Humans took natural things, and improvise it so that all the natural things in the world wont be gone.    The only thing that is natural is humans, plants, jewelry and maybe some other things that are in a house hold.

There was competition for technology like when the United States and the Soviet Union wanted to see who could get to the moon first.  Humans seek to gain knowledge from other groups to have there group more conformable.  That they can find ways to enhance what they were doing.  Back then not in present time, communities had to kept secrets to ensure for their survival.  Communities would be modest to defend their community by the advantage of their knowledge that they had, by their environment.

Also what the people back then did with the life needed pyramid, that the top or the bottom could effect each other.  With the knowledge of what they knew back then they were able to make a type of a chart.  At the bottom there is H2O, food, breathing, shelter.  That is what every body should be getting now.  But still in 2011 almost 2012 there is still poverty and the people have no education to get them self out of that community that they were born in.  Does any one think, how lucky we were to be born into such good families, it is really just luck.  Those people in Africa didn't get to choose there family and were the were born and the economic struggle that some families are in.  The second bottom is safely and the third is love and belonging.  Most humans love to love something and have some value to have a belonging of an item.  Second to the top is self asteam and achievement, it is nice to do something good in life, every human likes doing good, like getting a good grade on a test or some achievement.  And the top is purpose, with no purpose everything under it would fall apart.

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

In history, for every step forward there were always consequences.  As people moved from hunting and gathering to farming, it seemed that their lives would be automatically improved.  However, this was not the case.   People did not always consider how they would impact the environment, and many times it would cause great damage.  For instance, when civilizations began to grow crops, creative problems solving lead them to build systems for getting water from the rivers to there crops.  But, the consequence of being successful at farming was over-farming.  Once land became over-farmed, it was no longer useful because it was not arable.  Overuse of land for both farming and building lead to erosion and other problems in the societies.

Also people learned how to keep animals, instead of hunting them.  Hunting only allowed the animal to be used once, but in domestication, animals could reproduce and make more animals.  Instead of only being used for meat, once they were domesticated, they could other things, too, such as clothing from fur and hides, and they could be kept for producing milk and eggs.  If they were killed and used once, they could not produce all of those other types of products.   The consequences of using animals was that the animals carried diseases that were not common to humans.   So, human immune system was not strong enough to fight theses new diseases.  Many first generation farmers died as a result leading to a major population drop.

Early humans' creativity lead to advances in politics, writing, and art.  It seemed that the more they were able to change their environment -- on purpose -- the better their lives became and the more advances there were to science and technology.  However, people learned very often that when they took a few steps forward, there was always problems that arose and caused them to have to take a step or two back.  This continues to happen today, and hopefully humans learn from their mistakes and begin to cooperate with their environment, and do not repeat the mistakes they made in the past.

Balance

In the reading it talked about balance.
Why is balance so important in life, do you ever feel like walking on a tightrope trying to keep your balance?

When people think of life, people dont always think of balance.  But in order to keep every thing well you have to be balanced like in yoga.   Balance to most people in school its about the balance of homework, and friends but for most people they find there self lending toward to the friends side.  Or in balance for yoga and gym, its important to have the balance to do things.  They are keys in life, that is needed to do really well.  Some of those things are improvements in coordination, athletic skill, flexibility, and in posture of the back these help balance you in the gym area in life.  Balance's term is used or describe something, it could be about any thing like the history reading intro.

Every one at one point and another faces with the management of balance, like people that are attending schools that have stressed about school work and that they want to be with their friends.  In the day time to nights tend to last hours longer than really is.  Like when kids look at the clock to see how much longer of a class.  This can do part to finding balance in your life.

Balance is tough to get around.  In stead of taking the other way to in then fixing your balance in life, its just easier at the end to fix it right there and then.  Because doing it later on can cause frustration and doing it before you hit rock bottom, just takes some focus.  Like when life gets way out of hand busy, or when all of some bodies energy is focused on one thing it is easy to find yourself to be off balance.  Also not paying enough energy on one important piece to the puzzle in life, everything gets off balance.

Society

In class we are working on societies, and we are making our own.   We were able to pick any where we wanted and what climate we wanted to work with.  In the group, were making a society near a lake and has a beach and a farm and a ton of trees.  Kind of what like we think Chicago was back then in the old days.  We thought that Chicago's area was a great place, maybe because we live there and that's what we know of living here.  Chicago back then would be great for a new society and it has a pretty good climate.

We draw a like stretch of what we wanted are society and area would look like from a bird's eye view.  We wanted have a climate were not a lot of natural disasters happen.  Only like earthquakes but not really bad ones, also tornado's and that they are in that area but they not to big near lakes.  We thought that Chicago's area was a good place to interpret into our society and use Chicago's lake as a good stand point, for the society we wanted to start for the project.

The society would build houses out of mud, stones, cement, and wood.  We didn't want our land to run out of resources so the houses could be built out of other stuff then wood.  Mud and cement is useful with the climate because of the long beach for sand, water from the lake and some other igredneints for the house building.  We drew out a little farm that grew crops for everybody in the little growing town, with animals and fields.  And because there was a lot of forest we put the houses near the water so if there was a fire they could be safe.  We had Chicago in back of our minds the whole time and thought that our climate was a great climate to have a new society.  We put the historical things about Chicago but made them there own and that really helped us landscape were everything was going.   I think that the society that we drew out would be a really benefitful one.

This past Monday, we had a day off from school -- "Fall Break."  It lands on the same day as the federal holiday Columbus Day.  People go out of town and celebrate the long weekend, there is no mail delivery, and some government buildings are closed.  But, is this a holiday to truly celebrate?

According to: http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/national/columbus-day%3A-celebration-or-controversy, Columbus Day is not a holiday to be celebrated.  In fact, it is reported that Christopher Columbus' explorations lead to the killing of 90 million people on his behalf.  These were the people that in lived Central and South American tribes.  Those who were not killed were taken into slavery and shipped to other countries.

Many people in towns and cities across the United States are beginning to speak out against the national celebration of an explorer who ordered the killing and slavery of so many human beings who did nothing to deserve that treatment.  Some people want to end the holiday.  They feel like it is not something to celebrate.

There are other populations that are against this holiday.  The article above discusses how Muslim-Americans do not argee with this holiday because it is a day for Italian-Americans, and there is not a time in America for the Muslim-Americans to observe their culture.

There are others who want to continue the tradition.  For example, the Italian-Americans are proud of their culture, and celebrating this explorer is part of their culture.  Also, many public workers such as mailmen look forward to having the day off to spend with their families.  Students across the country enjoy having a day off after such a busy start to the school year.

At Francis Parker, this holiday is not called Columbus Day.  It is Fall Break.  It happens conveniently at a time when there is a national holiday, but most Parker students do not associate this short vacation with an early explorer.  It is really just a time to have a long weekend and relax in the long time between the beginning of school and Thanksgiving.

Haiti and economic impact

For the question Haiti's economic impact, I thought this reading was really helpful.  It answered the question I wanted to know, the year and the problem because of the impact.  It was about the health and human rights in Haiti which caused economic impact there and this happened during 1991-1994.  Which are things that Haiti really needs. 

Haiti/Pompeii

The natural disasters that happen all over the world can tell what that the place was poor or wealthy.   In Pompeii there was a volcano that erupted and covered everything.  Kind of like a fossil it kept the city alive even though it was died.  It was a rich place nice pots, jewelry, and ect.  But Haiti's earthquake it was a little different.  It was poverty stricken before the earthquake hit.  

Pompeii was able to shead away for thousands of year from the natural disaster, but Haiti's damage is a lot different.  All natural disasters does the same kind of thing, it kills people, and disrupts the land that people live on.   But it never repeats itself all the natural disasters are similar in a way but not really.

Can Haiti be rebuild, it's such a poor society and is dependant upon generous and kind outside resources?

If Haiti can get cleaned up, it's going to take a lot to really rebuild the deverastion of that country.  It was the poorest county on the western hemerseve. It will take a lot of time and energy to rebuild a socity with a stable government, safe schools, enough food and water for the people and jobs.   But the truth is that with out those things it will never be more than it was before the earthquake.   Without a stable government nothing will be able to be run.  The government was never that good but with the shock of the earthquake.  Will Haiti get its act together?  People need education so that people their can have a future.   Haiti is lucky that they have such gererous countries like the United States and others that really helped them, when they really needed it.  But now the problem is that they are dependant on those countries to kept on helping once its back to normal, how will they be able to not have those countries have the generous resources.

Haiti

If there were wasn't good health care before the earthquake, how do they expect to be better?

In Haiti there isn't well health care.  In the United States we are so lucky to be able to go to the doctor when needed.  But in Haiti there isn't any health insurance or good doctor offices.  Most were in shacks and when the earthquake hit the shack probably fell down.  The Haitian are the poorest country on the western herserve in the world.

It makes me think how lucky I am, when I have a cold and I go to the doctor for just a cold or a flu shoot.  Haiti doesn't have good health care and like a cold or without a flu shoot people get sicker and sicker.  Colds stread easily.  It makes me sad that they were so poor and then the earthquake hit, if something is bad in this case how does it become better.

 I know some one that went to a poor place and helped with health care.  She wants to become a doctor, and she took her summer and did something really difficult for a few weeks.  She told me that she would definitely go back.  But she wouldn't live there.  She doesn't under stand how the people haven't given up.  She asked them and the people said it was for god.  The people have a lot of religion, and they believe that it can be better.   But how does it get better when they are poor, sick, homeless from the earthquake. If I was one of them I would have probably given up.  But they are a lot stronger than me.  They have lived in a dirt ground house, no electricity.   But if it had happened to us, we live in beautiful homes, have electricity we would be in a lot more shock.  Since we haven't lived in poverty stricken and nothing that bad has happened.

Haiti

If you start with nothing, and then you lose everything, what is left?

This is a question that many Haitians probably have asked themselves every day since the devastation of the earthquake that hit Haiti on 12 January 2010.  Before the earthquake hit, most residents of the tiny island nation were already poverty stricken.  The Haitians lived in tiny shacks, and often extended families lived in a single cramped home with dirt floors.  Many of the luxuries that we enjoy in the United States do not exist in that poor country, such as running water, electricity, new clothing, medical treatment, and healthy food. In the earthquake, the few important posessions that people actually had were lost or destroyed. Hatians got diseases because because of lack of clean water and food, the shock of having everything ruined, and injuries such as broken bones and wounds became infected without medical care.

If this event was so horrible, how did the people of Haiti keep going? What made them want to try to rebuild their lives and continue with the act of living?

Hatians are very religious people.  They are mostly Christians (Catholic and Protestant), some practice the Bah'ai faith, and a few still practice Voodoo.  There are even some muslims. No matter what their religion, their faith in a higher power was strong, they believed that they could get through anything. Their religions probably also encouraged them to help each other, rather than looting, stealing, and fighting.  The impact could have been a lot worse if they didn't cooperate with each other.  Maybe, all of the suffering that they had in the past helped to prepare them to deal with a disaster such as the earthquake.  If this had happened in the United States, maybe Americans would not have been able to deal with it in the way that the Hatians were able to do it.

Katrina Part 2

When I saw those people fighting for the lives, like looting, and not having food, and the heat and the deep water.  In August the heat must have been terrible.  When I go to camp I have no electricy, no technology at my camp we live simply.  This summer it was 104+ for like three days straight it just wouldn't rain.  I wanted air conditing so badly I felt like I was going to died.  But now thinking that people were hot, hungry, and dieing.  They were fighting for there lives.  And I was at a really nice camp and I was not fighting for my life.

Also in the movie when there were big X's with fill ins on all four sides.  And that most didn't have any died people.  But when one person came back for his mom, there was a marking that they had been there.  But the doors were locked and the windows weren't broken.   So how could have they gotten in?  I felt so bad for him and the other people that had to find out that way.  They didn't really search the house.  They lied, I think that's the worst thing possible.  A better thing than lying is that they did or didn't search the house.  Also that people died in there own home.

It is remarkable how the government treated the problem of Katrina.  And that other country's were helping alot more than the own country that suffered from it.  Also that the anchor was interviewing someone who was in the government that said they didn't know about the 50,000 people on the streets and it was the 5th day.  Who would be that stupid from the government on national TV like that.  He should have told the truth.  Alot of people lied that were in the government and I think they could have solved it differently.  There are many different ways to solve one thing but they choice poorly.  Who can trust some one that lies to all the people that worked in the government?  I don't understand how the choices were poorly picked.

internet

I beleive that the internet as caused a lot of damage in history.  If one person posts something it can never be deleted.  As many times as some one presses history delete it can always be tracted.   The internet, as and will cause alot more damage.  People can look at things more easily and gets around quicker.

I think that a lot of the tuteroist things happened because the internet.  It is just a theory that is going around, but I believe it.  Nothing that big that distroded buildings in America as done before the internet.  And then after he posted a vedio on youtube and say Chicago was next.  Things get around fast, and people were nevorous.  Then 10 years later nothing happened.  It caused all that trouble for nothing.  Things back then wouldnt have happened how it happened in the 21st centery.

Also like Friday by Rebecca Black, it had over 133 million views.  It sounded terrible, but after she put it up it was up forever.  I felt bad for her but her vioce is terrible.  I am sure that she is a really nice girl though.  And that something bad had to happen for no reason.  Things get carried more easily people send links to each other and its all over the internet in a blink of an eye.

Any thing you want, you can search it up.  Sometimes it's a good thing to search anything you want but sometimes its not.  It has really shaped our time period.  I know that alot of peoeple would think they cant beleive people didnt have google and ect.  But I know how it feels, I go to camp so i understand how it feels not to have the computer or electricy.  When ever I think of our period I think of the internet and techology.

Katrina

I was really difficult to watch the Hurricane Katrina movie.  Even though I don't really remember it since I was in 2nd grade, I know it had caused so much deviation to the world.  Also that what they were hit was huge but was only a three.  They got missed by a 5 hurricane.  When they say they were missed I didn't really understand it till I as thinking about it.   They were lucky that they missed the 5 hurricane.  Even though what hit them was huge.   Also that city was around because of techogoly,  I wonder how people thought when the techogoly failed.  If people didnt have the wall there wouldnt be a town, but people have to learn from the mistakes of techogoly not everything is perfect.
I couldn't even possibility think about being on top of a roof for days in the sun.  For me, I would have like drown or like fainted from the heat.  What caused them to have hope.  If I was them I would be looking at all the negatives and the not positives.  Its difficult to look at the positives when things go really wrong.
Also that people didn't want to leave and some people were in there home or homeless in a big pile of water on the streets.  Why didn't they go to the SuperDome?  Wasn't it a evacuation, doesn't that mean they have to leave.  I would I felt in a heart beat.  But the people that stayed most have felt really attached and couldn't leave or thought it wasn't as bad.
When people in the movie were saying that there was helicopters but they didn't stop to help them when they probability could see them.  And how they thought they were going to help the White people first.  I think that's because of the USA history down in the south.  And that it really shaped the people that lived there.  But there was one group of helicoptors that really changed peoples life's to get them to a safer place.  I couldn't be one of the people in the helicopter and not help someone I would not be able to sleep at night, because those people could have died.

Objects

A few of the objects that hit me for the presentation was a rubix cube, a picture of a table, and toy,  Those objects aren't really used a lot during a common day in 2011 but these items that pretty much mean nothing to us.  Can represent big issues and they can express more than you can think.

The rubix cube is so difficult to fit together.  How many people do you know that can do that?  I only know two.  Its really difficult to fit the like cubes in color coloration on all six sides.  Like its really difficult to have a perfect world.  For the little countries during epoch three it was difficult to fit the rubix pieces together.   Even thought there are many ways to put the rubix cube together, you never know how to do it.  They are millions of different ways but, how did they know they were making a good choice?  They could have made things worse or they could have solved the problem.  In this case they were able to build the rubix cube back together with some practice over time.

There is a table at my Grandparents house that was made in the 1760's in French which really tells a little piece of what the culture and furniture was like.  I think that it was so interesting that they had it.  How did it end up there any way?   Its a beautiful colors of wood painted, but why did it end there? Why not a museum, wouldn't people want to kept it for there family?  I was wondering those things when i was looking at a table that is 250 years old.  Its difficult to answer questions from so many years ago, sometimes people don't have an answer and that may have happened in that case.

Also there is a toy that reparsents Nalopien.  The toy sits on top of the box because he was on top.  He was the one that made the good choices.  leaders are so important.  Community's strive with leaders, I believe that leaders are the key to things.  They are there to hold the fort down and they are there to make sure that nothing that bad happens.  With out leaders one and another wouldn't be able to have a wise conversation.  

Group Project and objects

I am working on epoch three.  We can up with several questions that tie into World War I, the French Revelation, the scientific Revelation and about if society's need things like leaders and if they have to advance.  Because when the society of the world evidences so does the rest.  Everything needs to grow, with out it it hurts at the end.  Like at my camp its small we live simiply no electricity, and when things happen out side the gate of camp like advances the camp as to change a little to kept up and running the camp.  Also if there isn't a leader in anything like if we didn't have Obama, who would be running our country and what would out country's problems could be right now?  I believe that every thing works better when there is a leader to guide people into the right path.  Some one needs to take a lead in action to do better or make the situation even worse.  Like even hundreds and thousands of years ago there were still leader like people who were in charge of empires and even Napoleon was a great leader.  He lead the people into a better place.  What if he had lead them into deeper troubles?


The objects I am bringing are pictures of old furniture from the French Revelation period the epoch the group I am are working on.  These are things from the Grandma and Grandpa's house that they collect.  One of the photo is of a table that was made a little before the French Revelation, around ten years before, but it really tells what the furniture looked like during that time period.  It is a desk that opens with beautiful wood work and painted over the wood.  And then I am also bringing in a photo of a old clock that was a little awhile after the Revelation, the clock has a compass as the arm to how it is read to read the time.  Also there are words around it and they are French were the numbers would go.  Finally there is a temperature at the bottom, its cool because most clocks don't have the finishing work on them.

Epoch 5

It's weird to look at history when you lived when that event happened.  Like the big ones like 9/11 and like the wars we are in today.  And now that I am old enough to understand what is happening now in the world today and a few years ago.  It's odd looking back in history when you lived in the time of the event, because most of the history we learn is from many years ago or from 1000's of years ago.   I always think that you learn what happens in history many years after the event happened.  And knowing that you lived at the time is strange.  That's what I was thinking most of the time when I was reading epoch five.

Also knowing of other events that happened at this epoch that gets left out because its not as big as others.  And people wont know that it happened without people at this epoch telling its story.  It's kind of us the people that live around the world that makes the history and tells the history to others.  We edit bits and pieces of history out all the time and not even thinking about it.  People in the next generation wont be able to know those things that got left behind.

When I think about this epoch I think about all the biggest things like the first thing that comes to mind is 9/11 and then the U.S.S.R fell.  But I think about 9/11 first because it is the most recent thing that was so powerful and that hit so many families.  Also because I lived in the United States when the twin towers fell down.  I am sure there are important events between the Soviet Union falling in 1991 to the twin towers falling down in 2001.  Like Rwanda and how 800,000 people died.  I don't think about that, and there must be a lot more people forgetting about it too.  Another huge thing was the Internet we live our lives with it every day.  And for me, I couldn't think of not having a cell phone or a computer.  But when I think of people around the world with none of that, and that a ton of people live without it.  It is amazing to see how a custom people have been getting to it.

Epoch 4

History is mostly studied, by the people from the generation after the event happened.  Like the people who lived when there was WWII they didn't study it.  It's the generation or two after it.  Some of the major ones from that time period really shaped what happened in history next.  Also what people lived in and damage one and another people did.  Which is the Holocaust, Cold War, and the rise of Bin Laden.

For the Holocaust almost every body that lived at that time period did something bad or the country they lived in damaged others.  Most of that happened from only one person, that really changed the world forever Adolf Hitler, and Benito Mussolini from their disruptive miltary.  Also the Americans dropping two Atomic bombs that changed the furture and the way people see things.  Second, how the people viewed the world as a less safe place after the droppings.  I feel like this epoch wasn't a time were people were happy.  I wouldn't want to be alive at this time in history.  But I think it is amazing for people to say that they survived the Holocaust or that they fought for a country.  Also knowing that my family in Europe was crashed from the rise of Hitler and many of them died in the Holocaust.  I feel like something good happend that epoch too but when you look at the big piture all you can see is the nasty things that happened that epoch.

When Africa was trying to get better the people with a lot of more power put two ethnic groups that don't get along.  Why would they do that?  Also that happened after World War II, and wouldnt the people see the world different?  Third, they don't want there to be a World War III and if they were given a chance to make the world a better wouldn't they take that offer.  Why make something bad when you can make it better?  These questions came to mind when I was reading Epoch four.  I don't even know how to answer them but they are so important.  They drove what happened later on like Darfor and other things too.  These things that happened have shaped the world since the events.  People think that something small won't be carried with people like 30 years later but everything gets carried.  Something gets left out in history, when the next generation learns about it.  We tell history and that's why it's so important.

Epoch Two: Advancements

During around Epoch two there was a ton of advancements.  I was wondering why that time period there were so many advancements and not another period?

Around 1,000 AD there were crusades and they were trying to get the "Holy Land".  I thought that Israel become a place after the Holocaust, to get a safe place so that they can pray and people felt bad for them.  Second, they got that place because no one wanted that piece of land in the Middle East.  I have never understood it all.  Even though I am Jewish and have been learning it at Hebrew school for the last like eight years, I have just never got my head around that.  I know that there are buildings from thousands of years ago, from the anient Israel people but why is it so special.  Aren't they just getting back what they had?  Why do the Christians and the Islam's wanted it so much? And now a day in present time people in the Middle East want it still.  I think that is significant because thousands of years later people still want the same thing.  People always want something they don't have.   Even though it doesn't repeat itself it tells a similar story.

In the Advancement epoch period people were trading alot.  And there was a disease that was traveled around Europe and Asia.  The trading was really good, but with something great there is always something bad.  Which is known as the Black Plague.    The advancemetns in that time period are so amazing from such a long time ago like trading on the Silk Road, and being able to press that made education so much stronger.  But the devastation of what happened in the epoch is so large.  I am sure that more stuff happened in that epoch but got left out in history because it wasnt as big.  I think that it hit so many people because everything was going so well and out of no where there was a killing disease that was hurting so many people and families.  Also that it spread so fast.  That epoch there was so many advancemetns but the Black Plague had to happen in bad timing.  Everything in history has to come with high and lows that's probability why it's so significant and why people are carring the story.  Also with out people carring the story of history it will be forgotten in the matter of time.

Epoch of Origins

During the Epoch of Origins, many "origins" of lanugage, law, environmentalism, religion, and culture that we experience today were created.  A big development that occurred was start of Judaism, which is still a major world religion, among others that were created during this early time period also.  With this, the Hebrew language and the Torah, also known as the Old Testament of the Bible.  This is really important to me because I am Jewish.  And the Traditions that were started in this time period are similar the ones that my family still follows today, such as Shabbot prayers, celebrating Passover, And Rosh Hashnana and Yom Kippur.

Many parts of our society today can be traced back all the way to the Epoch of Origins.  I believe the most important of these events is the formation of democracy.  The ancient Greeks created the independent form of government and encouraged people to participate.   The system that we use in the United States of America is based on this epoch.  Also, the people in Mesopotamia developed agricultural methods (such as irrigation) that are still used in modern farming.  We continue to interact with environment to farm crops and animals.  Finally, the first set of written laws was created during this epoch.  Hammurabi's Code formed the basis for the written laws today. 

Even though they did not have the benefit of modern technology, things such as religion and language spread across large spaces of land. One way this happened was that the Jews were kicked out of Israel  and had to spread into other areas such as modern Africa and Europe.  Both their religion and language were carried with them.  On the other hand, the Greeks chose to conqueer foreign lands and spread important things such as language, art, and their philosophical beliefs to other cultures.
